Happy New Year!
If you're like me, you've already made a few New Year's resolutions to work on in 2010. I read recently that one reason we so often fail at keeping these resolutions is that the brain simply can't focus on making too many changes at once. So this year, I have resolved to make 12 resolutions and focus on just one each month. Hopefully, I'll have a good answer in December if Dr. Phil asks me, "So how's that workin' out for ya?"
Although New Year's is a time for looking forward, it's also a time for looking back, and in the new issue of Newnan-Coweta Magazine we do precisely that. Many of the stories have a past-and-present angle, including articles about:
-- A Coweta woman who followed in the paths of Civil War quiltmakers by stitching a "Quilt of Valor" for a wounded warrior.
-- A historic African-American neighborhood in Newnan, Chalk Level, which has become the focus of some exciting new research.
-- The Coweta County Genealogical Society's headquarters in Grantville, where even a real beginner can explore their family history.
-- A group of Coweta fathers and sons who have enjoyed visiting a nearby deer camp together for decades.
-- Some family furnishings of yesteryear that have been turned into stylish new pieces for today!
And with perhaps a bit of snow in our future, I think you'll enjoy this issue's recipes for tasty comfort foods like Ham and Broccoli Ring and homemade Mac 'n Cheese.
Stay warm, stay safe and enjoy the new issue!
Fondly, Angela McRae
